Caring for a senior can be stressful and requires a lot of time, energy, and resources. Designed to provide a break for family caregivers, the senior respite facet of the Friendly Visiting Program helps relieve caregiver burnout and provide an opportunity each week for the caregiver to attend to their personal needs. In addition, seniors receiving the service benefit from seeing a new face and enjoy interacting with someone new. They can also engage in activities with the respite volunteer that give pleasure and purpose.
Carefully screened volunteers provide non-medical respite service once a week for three hours. This allows the primary caregiver to rest, relax and recharge, run errands in an expedient fashion, maintain their own health, attend support groups, engage in social outlets, and more.
